Rail Network Overview

Obligatory Disclaimer: The high-speed rail network that I describe in this post and future ones does not exist. It only occurs in my imagination until someone with money decides to build it.

To continue the overview of the high-speed rail exploration, I need to explain what I will be using for high-speed rail. The current fastest rail in the US are the Acela trains. These trains, as far as I am aware, go around 150 miles per hour. Technically speaking, this is not considered high-speed rail. While I may refer to this speed at times in reference to ride times, it will not be the base speed of my imaginary network. Instead, I will be using bullet-train speeds because this network is again, imaginary. I like to imagine a fast network. So therefore, this network will assume speeds of 221 miles per hour for the entire length for the network.

With this in mind, when I refer to ride times, unless stated otherwise, will be assuming the base speed of 221mph. Going along with that, I will likely not be including the security or waiting times before and after embarking on a train. While I plan to create a possible imaginary itinerary for some routes or locations, they will be general itineraries, nothing super specific. I will use real attractions or events but please note that I don’t have any connection to any of them, unless otherwise stated. Also, much of my info is gathered through a quick Google search, so if you know that the event or attraction no longer exists or if you know of a more interesting location, event, or maybe even a better major stop for my network, please let me know and I will be happy to look at it further.

So in summary, this network will run on 221 miles per hour and I will look at possible trips that people could be making with such a network that they aren’t already due to various factors. These factors may be brought up in my posts. A few of those possible factors, in my opinion, are time based and stress/hassle based. To explain further, a time based issue for some may be that while they may have enough money to splurge on a short weekend trip, a trip with 2.5-3+ hours of travel time each way may be too long of a trip for them to commit to. “Why would I spend half of my Saturday and half of a Sunday for a trip? That wouldn’t be a worthwhile trip to me” for example. This is an example of a barrier that I will likely mention while exploring this network.
