Everybody wants to be a Crusader,
To be a fighter,
To be a hero.
There needs to be a villain for such a task,
To provide the action for the reaction.
There must be a focus, a conflict.
To push against air is easy,
To push against the wind, not nearly.
A question still remains,
How to choose a hero,
And who is the one to choose.
Is it the people in zeitgeist,
Or history’s long shadow.
Can they see the hero in the small,
And in the big.
Perhaps the heroes are found,
Rather than chosen.
And perhaps they are found,
In the memories and gratefulness,
Of the people they save.
Where is a hero found,
Outside of these fleeting days.
